Monsoons! 5 Beauty Tips to Prep for the Rain Gods

Google Image

Everyone loves rains, yes some like to be indoors and feel relaxed with a cuppa chai and some prefer to go and jump in those puddles and feel the rain. People enjoy rain in their own style; however, in order to enjoy to the maximum, some preparation is required...

Prep No. 1: Skin, lip care and make-up

With the change in weather, skin care becomes of utmost importance. Depending upon your skin type, you need to start the skin care regime. As the weather cools down a bit we are tempted to skip the sunscreen routine; however, we must continue to use spf be it anytime of the year. Try using more natural products like milk, rose water for any of your face-pack needs. Use a mild natural face wash and ensure you wash your face each time you are back home/office from out. Lips are well pampered mostly during the winter months, however, lips need care with the change in weather and do not ignore chapped lips and treat them before it worsens.

Avoid usage of heavy makeup during monsoons and go for more water proof options so that you are not stressed on your smudged makeup. You can always use a long wear kajal pencil for your eyeliner needs and use a matte lipstick or much better a good quality lip pencil. Avoid foundations all together - a good coverage matte powder and a bit concealer should help in replacing a full coverage foundation for daily needs. For your blush needs, you can go for a well pigmented blush but just dab a lil' and let your natural flush show on your face. Avoid brow gel/powders as it is too much to handle when you are drenched - rather go for a professional eyebrow threading for the season and keep it well trimmed. For eyeshadow needs prefer shades that are natural so that you do not need to worry incase your eyeshadow ends up creasing - go for a bold eyeliner and good amount of water-proof mascara to pop those eyes.

Prep No. 2: Hair Care

It is not only important to ensure you are using water-proof mascara and eye pencil during these watery months but also that you are taking good care of your hair. Ensure that your hair is washed with a mild shampoo 2-3 times a week and do not sleep on wet hair, as far as possible, let it air dry. Sometimes you end up getting wet in the rain - the least damage you can do to your hair is to avoid tying it as it makes your hair brittle and weak resulting in hairfall. Usage of hair oil and conditioner on a weekly basis is healthy habit for any type of hair. Eat healthy nutritious food and keep yourself hydrated at all times, healthy hair is usually an outcome of a healthy body.

Prep No. 3: Health and Food

A healthy body is a happy body. Ensure you are well hydrated during the rainy months - we tend to feel less thirsty because of the drop in the temperature but that does not discount your water needs for the body. Ensure you continue to drink sufficient water and drink a glass or two even if you are not thirsty. Water-borne diseases are at a high at this time of the year, therefore ensure you have only pure water and do no compromise on the same. Carry a small bottle with you at all times so that you are not tempted to gulp down fizzy drinks which do more harm than good. Minimize eating out in the monsoon months, the immunity is generally at a low because of the sudden shift in the weather and if you end up falling sick because of bad or unclean food it will only make you dread the season. Avoid street food completely (I agree, the aromas from the fluttering bhutta corns, bhajiyas and cutting chai are irresistable) and try cooking some of your monsoon treats at home and enjoy them with you family and friends. :)

Prep No. 4: Clothes and foot wear

Change in weather also means change in the wardrobe, ensure you pick comfortable clothing. Rains are mostly an extension of the summer season with watery bits :) therefore do not stack away your summer clothing yet, the humidity in the weather is still high, which means you need to wear light comfortable clothing. Avoid clothes that are very expensive or high maintenance so that if you end up getting wet, you do not end up ruining your clothes along with your mood. Choose soft and comfortable foot wear depending upon your style and needs. You do not have to end up in ugly shoes just because the roads are wet, you can always look up for the current style and choose a foot wear which will blend for both casual and formal outfits or keep an option of two foot wears for either of the needs. Keep you toe-nails short so that you don't end up damaging your feet or nails.

Prep No. 5: Rain ready beauty bag

Your bag should hold the following for a stress free monsoon:

- A compact umbrella/wind-cheater/raincoat
- An extra pair of tee, shrug or leggings/jeggings
- Water-proof makeup and lip balm
- Travel size water bottle
- Some healthy snack
- A diary of emergency numbers
- A small hand towel
- A couple of tamper proof bags
- Sunglasses - because it does not rain all the time!

Disclaimer: These tips are based totally on my experience with rains and are not fool-proof ways to get by but are definitely worth a try! :) Happy Monsoons!!!

Bioderma Node DS+ Shampooing Review

Bioderma! A brand every skin/hair care fancying woman greedily hoards. Well in my case I needed to pick this "heaven sent" product to heed to my never-ending, every stalking dandruff problem. I have been facing persistent dandruff right since I was a kid, but with time and changing products the flaky snow on my head just got worse. I had been using The Body Shop - Ginger Anti Dandruff shampoo, as mentioned in my earlier post here , I never swore by it that it did any good or bad to my dandruff situation, but I still continue using it every once a while and avoid using it on my scalp off-late. I was recommended this shampoo by my dermatologist as  I recently had some problem with an allergy on my lip (about that I will cover in another post - coming soon!) which was triggered by dandruff *sighs*. Ok back to Bioderma Node DS+ shampoo Claims of this product: - Reduces rapid increase of Malassezia yeast which triggers dandruff - Prevents recurrence of da

VLCC Pista Massage Cream Review

For good number of years, I have been using the facial kits by VLCC, it is a good last minute self-facial treat and does the job of putting up a sublime glow to your face without spending an hour or two at the salon. I thought to give this product   a try , as I was looking for a massage cream, which I can include in my weekend pamper sessions. I did not want a high-end brand or an expensive product because sometimes I just like a simple scrub, face wash, face pack combination of pamper sesh' for my face and thats it! About the packaging and price It is a 50g massage cream which retails for Rs. 260/-. It is not a new product by VLCC and has been in the market for a while. It comes in a plastic jar and is well sealed. In terms of packaging it is nothing fancy and it has a plastic covering with all the details of the ingredients, price, expiry date and method of usage.  About the product and usage The cream is green in color and has a slightly off

A Marks & Spencer Beauty: Mini Perfume Haul

I am all into miniatures these days and when I saw these beauties, I had to dig in. I have never been a perfume purchase person, as mostly they were gifted to me. I love a real good mist and was quite committed to Bath & Body Works and The Body Shop ones for a long time now so I decided lets switch that up and that is when I found these lil' devils and whats better than carrying these dinky yet amazing perfumes around for a spritz! There was an ample collection in all different sizes and notes, I am sure there is something for everyone. I was looking for an everyday type of a scent, so I picked up a day scent, an evening scent and a floral scent.  Since they are so dinky and sturdy you can easily carry them in your smallest purses throughout the day. 1)  Marks & Spencer Beauty:  Lavender Eau De Toilette - This scent is from their floral collection, I never owned an ONLY lavender scent before, I sniffed it I loved it, it is a typical lavender subtle scent, yet it makes
